Everyone is talking about change these days, and it seems everyone has a unique model to make it happen. However, this latest article in the recent McKinsey Quarterly describes a simplified model that really resonated for me. It explains the solution as having four building blocks:
- Role modeling: the importance of leaders making the change first
- Fostering understanding and conviction: understanding and believing the “why”
- Reinforcing with formal mechanisms: ensuring that rewards and other systems reinforce the right things
- Developing talent and skills: empowering people through skill development

Also, I would invite you to take a look at Kwela’s two workshops that specifically deal with the skills associated with change management:
- Leading Change: A practical implementation of John Kotter’s Leading Change process
- Influencing without Authority: Directly links to Understanding the “why”
